Wondering what is Sherlock Calling!! Well it’s the most thrilling and adventurous detective day celebration at HappyMinds Leadership Academy. Now, there are certain characteristics  detectives  possess which require years of practice and development. Not only is their work adventurous, it is very dangerous at times. We thought why not the kids of our academy have hands on experience  assisting Sherlock Holmes and help him solve the great mystery of hidden treasure.

Children of all age have always been thrilled to be detectives, watch spy cartoons or read stories of Tin tin, Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew to name a few. Every kid loves to solve mysteries, crack codes and uncover secret messages. So we polished our magnifying glasses and took them to the adventurous land of detectives and criminals. To get the real feel all the Boys and Girls were dressed as detectives.

Geared up to take the challenges ahead of them, the kids were confident and showcased excellent enthusiasm. At the start of the session we introduced children to the work of a detective and explained them about their working styles and characteristics. They were also introduced to a few words like forensics and evidence to give them a further insight. They learnt about crime scenes and fingerprints and the importance of wearing gloves while collecting evidence. After the briefing they were given various challenges such as Arithmagon, Decoding a message, Puzzles and word scrambles that lead them to the final clue. The final clue was a secret message for them from Sherlock Holmes. It can’t be expressed what we witnessed during the session. The smartness, the techniques and the accuracy they solved mysteries with was impressive.

We designed this session to develop certain skills in children which a detective possesses like Creative thinking, Observational Skills, Concentration skills, Problem Solving techniques and Under-stress working. We are happy to have been able to make the kids understand all this with the help of the activities performed in this session. The efforts put together in designing and conducting the session by Team HappyMinds was appreciated by students as well as parents.

HappyMinds Leadership Academy session on Grasping Power and Presentation Skills:

This week we celebrated “Friendships Day” at HappyMinds Leadership Academy with our students. We explained Smart Leaders and Smart Scholars the importance of Friendship. We exchanged friendships bands with each other and then read a Story with a strong morale of Friendship.

After the celebration Smart Scholars started the session with 15 minutes meditation to develop focus. Every student prepared a story and presented it with Introduction and Voice Modulation. It was truly spectacular watching kids of 5-10 years age perform the story effectively and ending it by explaining the morale. We also taught kids widely used proverbs with help of a video. They were thrilled to use it now in their daily conversation. We added a fun factor and gave the children a few tongue twisters to practice. They were then asked to say the tongue twisters for number of times.

The Smart Leaders learnt the importance of Spoken English. They learnt how to reduce  errors while speaking and writing English by practicing Reading, Vocabulary, and Writing regularly. Then they discussed a few current affairs by putting up their points of a given issue for discussion. We also conducted a Group Discussion on the topic “Friends-Lifeline of humans”. Couple of videos were then shown during the session on the facts of today’s era and Sherlock holmes to test children’s observational skills.

Finally, a feedback was given to children by their trainers on public speaking skills.

This week the sessions at HappyMinds Leadership Academy focused on developing Good Communication Skills in Scholars and Leaders. We decided to do Speaking and Listening Skills which is an integral part of any Communication.

For Scholars we began the session explaining them the importance of communication and its process. This was explained by narrating stories. They learnt to narrate stories effectively by giving an Introduction of Characters, incorporating voice modulation and practicing the tone. We also played videos targeted to develop their Listening skills. Doing varied activities with kids has always been our keen interest. Thus, we designed various activities to help children understand why is listening so important for good communication.

For Leaders we began with an Introduction of the idea of sharing important current affair news in the beginning of each session. Leaders were asked to make a secret note to share their problems. For the activity we divided the students in different Political parties and asked them to prepare a campaign for their party to promote for elections. They were given a brief on the Lok-Sabha election process. Apart from knowledge about elections, these sessions help children learn Teamwork skills such as listening, sharing, participating, taking ownership and being responsible.

We feel Joyous when children participate and perform these activities with interest and develop these skills with practice.
